Living(stone) it up!

On Easter Sunday, whilst the majority of people were making their way through vast amounts of chocolate, a strong band of Harborough AC runners were earning their eggs! Around the sports-orientated surroundings of the Loughborough University Campus, 29 Club Members made up a total of eight teams taking part in the prestigious Annual Livingstone Road Relays. Raced over a single three mile loop, the course passes some of the best sporting facilities the country has to offer, and which are used on a daily basis by many of the elite athletes that represent Team GB. The highlight of the day for the Club was a third place finish for the Veteran Men’s “A” Team (4x3miles), who completed the course in a total time of 70 minutes and 36 seconds, with Martin Gore posting the fastest leg time for Harborough with 17 minutes 01 second. The team was brought home by Ady King, who ran strongly for 18 minutes 02 seconds, while both Richard Bufton and Will Clapp proved their ever-reliable selves to complete the successful quartet. There were fourth place finishes for both the Senior Women’s “A” Team (3x3miles: Yvonne Scarrott 19:52; Emily Taylor 20:45; Karen Brooks 19:54, total time: 60 minutes 31 seconds), and the U20’s Men (4x3miles: Matt Driver 18:20; Jake Watson 18:37; Dan Taylor 23:03; Matt Taylor 22:00, total time: 82 minutes).
After the event, Club Chairman Martin Hughes said: “It’s really encouraging to see so many Members out competing for the Club at this early stage in the road-racing season; especially so many new faces to team competitions! The Veteran Men’s Team ran excellently to finish third, but I’m also very pleased to see some of the younger Club runners making the step up to compete with the Seniors; they did us all proud!”
