Great Fun at The Great Run
A good turnout from HAC took on the 2009 Great Kibworth Run on Sunday 27th September. The second running of the Great Kibworth Run (in it's renewed form) saw a strong showing from the club, with 14 Members tackling either the 1/3 (8.73 Miles) or 1/2 marathon routes. On a beautiful autumnal day, the HAC contingent certainly proved that they hadn't lost their 'spring', being led home by the rejuvenated Hugh Delargy, who placed 2nd in the 1/3 marathon race, coming home in an impressive 57minutes 56secs! He was soon followed by Rory Maclaughlin in 5th place with 60minutes 44secs, and Penny Smith, who finished a very creditable 12th overall (second lady) in 65minutes 42secs. Slightly further back were Rachel Lundy - 63rd in 79minutes 08secs; Dave Oram - 68th in 80minutes 55secs; and Yasmin Delargy - 109th in 93minutes 06secs.
Over the longer 13.1 mile course, a number of the Club's recognisable distance runners were out in force. Nick Turner-Henke produced the best performance of the day, with a combative 1 hour 37minutes 25secs to place him 26th overall. He was soon joined over the line by Shane Edge in 1 hour 39minutes 05secs (for 31st position), and Katy Kenyon - 69th in 1 hour 49minutes 20secs. A little further down the field were Traci Edwards - 99th in 1 hour 56minutes 09secs; Dorothy Burrows - 166th in 2 hours 14minutes 14secs; Colin Stoner - 180th in 2 hours 18minutes 26secs; with the evergreen Jim Knights rounding off the Club's strong showing with 2 hours 23minutes 15secs for 190th place.
